I see your playing a Telecaster in this course, who do you get that mellow jazz tune with the tele. What amp settings are you using?
Thank you

HI Jamie,
Just watched your Jazz amp video on You Tube…Thankyou!
If you know of a Polytone Megabrute for sale, please let me have a contact.
Just decided to try Jazz guitar, a bit late at 75 but I look forward to the journey.
Thanks,
Graham
Returning guitar player( 74 years young) after 35 year break. Know all my pentatonic scales and an jam with basic blue . . . Every jazz course I try is just too advanced and I get frustrated. Do you have a course that will teach me a easy jazz tune with chords and single notes that’s not too fast or complicated?
Thanks!
Hi Peter you are never too old or too young to learn! Check out my free beginner course.
I can’t seem to register for the free course. It keeps telling me the passwords don’t match. I have changed it and typed it in many times knowing for sure they were the same but I get the same result and I sure like to take this course. Thanks, Rick Toles
Thanks Rich – just sent you a password reset let me know if you still have problems. Thanks.
Hey Jamie,
I was just wondering if that was you and your partner at the car park of camping sandaya in France ? We just had a chat.
Maybe it’s a strange coincidence or I’m completely wrong then please excuse me. Otherwise I have seen your double.
Greetings Lukas

Hi Jamie, I have been watching and following you off/on over the years and much appreciate all that you do.
I just saw a YouTube you did called “Should YOU use Flatwound or Roundwound strings” and loved what I saw and heard when you talked about Flatwounds on a Tele (starting at about 4:30). I am a Tele player, and have been desperately trying to get that “Jazz tone” you so well demonstrated on YOUR Tele in this video. I have never used Flatwounds, so that was a real learning experience in itself.
I have ordered some “Thomastik Flatwounds 10-44” for my Suhr Custom Tele as flatwounds seem to make the world of difference (so many Jazzers use them). And Julian Lage certainly agrees with the concept as well 🙂 I have always just used D’Adarrio Nickel Wound EXL 10’s or 9’s, but they are very bright on the scale of things. So no question now why I couldn’t get YOUR sound.
To help me get the “full picture”, I would very much appreciate you letting me know – in that video portion you did using Flatwounds on your Tele-
1) I can see you used Flatwounds 10-46…but what BRAND of strings did you use / do you use?
2) What amp were you using? If you remember your EQ settings, that would also be great to know.
3)What effects did you use any effects (reverb?)
Having all that info will be a huge help in me getting to that sound you so beautifully demonstrated in that video! I so love Jazz on a Tele!
Many sincere thanks Jamie…
Hi Jamie
I sent a comment with questions a couple days back and wanted to know if you received as I haven’t heard back, nor can I see the comment here.
Many thanks
Hi Charlie, thanks for your comment. I’ve just seen that my contact page is down which is why it’s taken a while to respond. Perhaps you misunderstood me, but on that video I actually say that I use round wounds on a Tele. Gauge 10-46s. D’addario strings, but that Roadworn still has strings which came on it which are not d’addario as they sound dead (like flat wounds) which d’addario strings never seem to sound like. I used GarageBand to record that example which is a free DAW for MAC – there is reverb for sure but just the one that comes on the EQ. I like to use amps to play in reality but the recorded sounds of the DAW often sound much better than mic’ing up the amps I have! Hope this helps
Hi Jamie – Many thanks for your reply. My apologies as you are quite correct…I re-watched your video and you did in fact say the flats were only on one guitar…not the Tele. But based on your commends that the strings on the Tele in the video were “dead (like flat wounds)”, then one can not really make any assumptions as to how flats sound on a Tele. I am curious to know what flats sound like on a Tele as I have NEVER used flats (!!) and I absolutely love the tone you got on that Tele in the video. I have been trying to get that “Wes” sound for years. That is exactly what I am after. Currently I use the same strings you do (D’Addario XL’s Nickel Wound Rounds) and use 9-42 at this time, but have also used 10-46. Either way, the tone I get with those Round wounds is nowhere near the jazz tone you got…nowhere close! I will not turn my tone knob way down on the Tele to try and attempt to get that sound, as it always sounds muffled and horrible. Been there, done that, and I don’t like at all. And more importantly, doing that does not sound like what you get.
So maybe dead round wounds sound like flats as you say. Either way, I have some Thomastiks 9-44 flats on order and do hope they will make a difference and get me closer to the tone you get.
Thank you as well Jamie for confirming your amp is GarageBand and that’s how you got the tone you did. Interesting approach, and I wouldn’t have thought that.
I play my Tele through some reverb and such, and then into my “amp” which is a “Strymon Iridium” Pedal going into my Tannoy Studio speakers.
The Iridium is great, but I still haven’t got your tone. I am going to look into buying an FRFR speaker (most likely the Fender FR12) as everyone in review blogs say the sound from a good FRFR is hugely better than any studio speakers. The studio speakers just sound thin and metallic like. So I’m hopeful a good FRFR cab matched with my Iridium matched with my Tele with flats, will get me to that nice warm sound you get!! Fingers crossed!
Thanks again for listening Jamie and helping me with your comments…and certainly, based on the above, if you have any further suggestions to help me get your tone on my Tele, I would be very grateful.
BTW…I love your YouTube channel and have subscribed. Great stuff you do…and many thanks for that as well!
Cheers…
Thanks Charley, good luck! The most important aspect is always touch. The sound I get on a Strat is barely any different from a Tele. I do have a video about how to get a jazz tone from a solid body. I use a Strat in the video but I do the same thing on a Tele.
The free intro course is brilliant. I cant thank you enough. You clarity and attention to detail is brilliant. I actually am a keyboardist and will study tith you as l recruit a guitarist to enjoy your offering
I am interested in learning how to play jazz guitar and would like to know how much does the pricing goes and how does this work.
